EXPERIENCE & BIOGRAPHY
Mr Schwab's practice specializes in advising high net worth individuals and small business in the areas of taxation and business planning, including tax compliance. He holds an advanced law degree in taxation and has over 35 years of experience as a multi-state tax, business, and estate planning attorney. Mr. Schwab's practice prepares sophisticated income tax returns for individuals, partnerships, estates and trusts, and has represented numerous clients in tax audits before the Internal Revenue Service. Mr Schwab's tax practice is national, representing clients in a number of states, including New York, Vermont, Connecticut, California, and Florida. Mr. Schwab has acted as outside General Counsel to a number of closely held companies, and is Of Counsel to the northern California law firm of Friedemann Goldberg Wargo Hess LLP. In addition to his legal practice, Mr. Schwab also serves as an Independent Trustee and trust protector for several high net worth family trusts.
Prior experience includes a position as Tax Manager with the San Francisco, California office of Deloitte & Touche LLP CPA’S, where he was involved in planning strategies for multi-state tax clients and sophisticated compliance for both public and private companies. Mr. Schwab was also the founding partner of a small law firm in San Francisco where he practiced as a tax and business planner, and later a principal of the northern California CPA firm of Pisenti & Brinker LLP, where he was elected Co-Chair of the Tax Department, and Chair of the Estate Planning Department.
Mr. Schwab received his undergraduate degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo (B.A. Psychology, cum laude, with a minor in Management Science); a law degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo (J.D.) where he was an Honors tax student and the recipient of an award for excellence in Mock Trial Competition; and an advanced law degree in the subject of Taxation from Georgetown University Law Center (LL.M.)
Mr. Schwab is admitted to practice law and a member of the State Bar in both New York and California. He is also admitted to practice before the United States Tax Court; the United States Court of Federal Claims; and the United States District Court for the Western District of New York. Mr. Schwab has also participated as a speaker with the New York University Institute on Taxation.
